At a glance: Head to the North Fork for Apple Picking Where:Lewin Farms
812 Sound Ave.
Calverton, NY 11933
We visited the "smaller" orchard at the north end of Fresh Pond Rd (closer to Sound Ave.) This one is SUPER toddler friendly
Who: Easy walkability for toddlers -plus close parking
What: Low-Key and relaxed orchard and farm stand, they have a corn maze on weekends. There are only port-a-potties at the orchard we visited- just lettin' you know.
Cost: $8 for ages 10 and over and $5 for kids 5-9, free under 5. They apply that to the overall apple price. You pay $1.75 per pound. This is great! (Corn maze and other activities are additional)
Details: The GPS will take you to the farm stand, and the "smaller" apple orchard is about two miles past the store. At the end of this post you’ll find links and information to other awesome apple picking spots- keep reading
We decided on a low-key apple picking session this year because... three toddlers. Their unpredictability, plus possible cranky and carsick factor told us not to go on an all day apple excursion. So, we decided on a half-day trip to Lewin Farms to pick our yearly haul of apples! It turned out to be PERFECT for us!If you have small kids and/or people with mobility issues, then Lewin is great. As I mentioned, we went to the "smaller" orchard and there is not much walking involved. The kids were able to pick tons of apples and it was perfect.
Bonus: Grandma was in town to experience it with us and it made a perfectly fun day.
And off we went into the rows of trees! The kids had a great time and the trees were full of apples at their height- they could do it all "on their own" and they thought it was amazing.
We filled our basket.
And we filled it more!
After about an hour of running through the trees, we could tell the kids were tired, so we went to weigh our goods and pay.
We jumped back in the car and headed over to the farm stand for a few other veggies grown on the premises and apple cider, of course.
I recommend Lewin Farms for an easy spot to take small kids.
